Wanted to write about lot of things...that happened in the past one week
First of all the series against Pak. After the T20 world cup win, India has certainly come off a long way in cricket. Side is young, more confident. It did show during Australia's series, not in the 50 over form of the game though. There is still scope for improvement in a lot of departments. I guess the true test of their ability is going to be when they play in Australia. Aussies are literally invincible on their home turf. Beat them there and India can beat any team anywhere in the world.
Getting back to the recently concluded series India won it in style against Pakistan, but I thought that Pakistan didnt play to their full potential. Their's is also equally talented and a strong side. All of us were looking for some nail biting finishes. It didnt turn out to be that so far. There is one more match to go before we look to Aussie series. Will be tracking those games very closely. So, if someone's reading my blogs, watch for my "expert" analysis on India's cricket performance in Australia ;-) !.
So much about my favorite sport. World Panorama - Uncle Sam is always in headlines for all the wrong things. First it was Iraq, then it's Iran. Then came the big talk about US economy's recession. Sub-prime lending and all that crap. 50 basis point cut in interest rates seemed to have given some relief and then again another 25 basis point cut..people say is US economy is right back on track. It's amazing to know how much impact it has on world capital markets. Especially in India, stock market is going crazy. Even SEBI is very nervous about the sudden spurt in the business that happening despite it's tight noose on the stock market. BSE(Bombay Stock Exchange) touched 20000 mark before Diwali. It would be interesting to see where we are headed !.
Europe...EU had been contemplating for very long about allowing talented foreign workers to take up more jobs. Couple weeks ago, there was this interesting discussion on BBC channel on the so called "Blue Card" that EU would introduce on the same lines as US has it's "Green Card" today. Except for UK, I haven't seen very many countries in Europe doing much to attract foreign workers. I for one will surely be keeping a tab on what EU does with "Blue Card". I'd certainly be interested to work in Europe. I'm sure it would certainly be a great experience. Oh yeah, then a week later, there was this news about the shooting that took place in a Finland university. Didnt hear such kind of thing happening in any European country, definitely not in Finland, in a long time. Certainly scary, hope Finnish authorities will tighten the gun rules.
Moving to Asia, in Pak Musshy(Musharraf) is having a rough time with judiciary. Leaders like Benazir and Nawaz Sharif didnt lose any time to come out with their spiel on "Democracy" as if Pakistan had become a "super-power" during their governance. I think Mushy has been a more able administrator than any of these two. Yes "Democracy" should be restored in Pak but its reigns should be given to a new generation of leaders who are less fundamentalist, more pro-development and yes definitely a pro-Indian diplomacy. I think intelligence should dawn on Pak politicians. They should stop playing on people's anti-Indian sentiments and should encourage more trade and cultural exchange with India. Neither of the countries will ever benefit from what's happening now. I have this fancy dream...a day when the 3 countries - India, Pakistan and China come together and work for development of the region. Wow, what potential the countries hold. Brains, Natural Resources...what a difference it can bring about ! Hmmm....yeah wishful thinking...wonder if that can ever happen !! :-)
So much about the world affairs...back home, well, politics are as murkier as they always are. Government is still deliberating on signing the Indo-US nuclear agreement. I never understand US's funny diplomatic policy towards India.
Back to my life, things are going alright. Work-wise, there are still a few challenges. I'm taking my time to handle them. More interesting blogs coming...watch out !.
